I've previously used a cheap analog thermometer or timed and guessed at when my meats would be done on the grill. Buying and using the ProAccurate thermometer has been a transformative experience in the way I grill meats. With this fast, accurate thermometer, I now reliably get the medium rare steaks cooked medium rare, the medium steaks cooked medium, and my chicken and pork safely cooked but not overdone. Nice egg shape design keeps it from rolling off. My one wish would be that the stem of the thermometer were about 6 inches longer -- I sometimes feel like I'm burning my fingers when I get close to the grill to check temperature (that's why proper grill utensils are big, right?).

Overcooked meat is usually the result of using this thermometer. It displays internal temperatures way below the target even though cooking time should be about right, and after checking at regular intervals for progress, suddenly the temperature is way above the target! WTF? Over and over again this has happened. Piece of junk.

I purchased one of these crappy thermometers and it arrived DOA; just a blank screen. I exchanged it and got a second one the same way; DOA. I am going to return it to Amazon for a refund.
Save yourself a lot of grief and stay away from this poor excuse for a thermometer.

The thermometer that I received does not look like the picture at all. What I received is hard to read and slim like a pen or pencil.

I've used this thermometer several times a week for eight months now and am still very pleased with my purchase. I would give it five stars if it was truly instant read instead of taking six seconds to reach temperature, but for less than $20 this has been a very satisfactory product. The best kitchen thermometer I've ever owned, and that says a lot!
